Star Wars X-Wing State Championship Florida Tournament Rd 1

The Dogs of War Gaming channel come strong out of the gate with this first round coverage of the Florida state championship. They do a great job of timelapsing the footage at a speed to condense the game down well but not so fast to be detrimental to the gameplay. An excellent little 30 minute battle report.

X-Wing Batrep: Dual Defenders vs. S&V 4Z/2Y

The Daily dial are breaking out of their mould and experimenting with more non conventional lists.

In this video they take two TIE Defenders up against a six ship scum swarm, that might be a tongue twister.

X-Wing Store Championship - Round 1

Athena Games bring coverage of their local Store championship in Norwhich,UK.

Here they start off on the ground floor with a first round battle report.

The production quality is good on this series of videos. The squad information overlays on the left and right of the screen is nice and simple yet still bold and clear to make it as easy as possible to asses the game progress at any time.

Video quality suffers considerably by being just slightly out of focus, and in combination with a maximum resolution of 720p some of the smaller details are hard to make out (dice rolls and maneuver dials are particularly difficult to make out.
But where Athena games really shines is in the commentary. In this case the two hosts do an excellent job of discussing the game in a natural manner. They are both enthusiastic and informative at the same time. Definately an example to follow with regards for how to do commentary right.

X-Wing 100pts- FNP Wargamers Ep.2

FNP Wargamers Publish a video of a battle report at a freindly local game store.
This video is shot on a handheld camera which helps to keep dice rolls a tokens clear and visible to the viewer because the camera is much closer to the action. The down side to this is the activation phase is not covered in the video (mostly because the camera man needs both hands free to move ships). Because of this in this video they choose to leave all the movement templates on the table which ends up with the playfield being considerably cluttered during the combat phase.

X-wing Thursday game

The Its Athing channel uploaded a couple of videos some time ago and they went dormant until uploading this video with Wave six releases.
The video quality is very good considering that there is no 1080p option on this video. The table chatter between the players is interesting although with a lot of pauses and colourful language can be difficult to ignore.

X-Wing Madness Round 11: Defenders

If you just can't get enough of watching Crabbok playing with himself, here you get to see what happens when Rexler Brath goes toe to toe with Colonel Vessery.

X- Wing Store Championship 2015 - The Wyvern's Tale - Semifinal

A bunch of videos from the same store championships. See this post for further details

X- Wing Store Championship 2015 - The Wyvern's Tale - Final

Looks like The Wyverns Tale in north carolina had their store championship this weekend and also decided to twitch stream the event. Then the video got uploaded to YouTube.

They used a camera mounted directly over the play field and include an overlay interface which I found to be more of a waste of space than anything else.

So due to the low ammount of screen space occupied by the play field and the long distance a direct overhead cam requires the finer details such as dice rolls are hard to follow.

Audio is present but is recorded on a very poor microphone with a lot of clipping and excessive noise from spectators but not much conversation from the players.

This video in particular is the final of the store championship so they really should have put more effort into having someone commentate the game, Another complaint is that the game takes forever to get going, With the first dice rolls coming at the 23 minute mark, make sure you skip ahead to avoid a drawn out setup sequence and opening moves.

Vätterspel X-Wing Winter Tournament battlereport #2

This seems like a good week for X-Wing channels to improve the production quality on their videos.

This time it's Swedish channel spelkult bringing a newly updated graphics layouts and animations to show the damage removing hull points and shields.

I would still prefer to see them bring the camera down closer to the table and let the play field occupy more screen real estate.

Another interesting feature is that they include a magnifying glass to zoom in on the dice rolls, which could be very effective but in this case they only seem to use it once.

Star Wars X-Wing: Wave Five Demo Game (Oicunn vs Dash)

Northern Gaming finally gets around to a demonstration game of the wave five ships.

In this batrep the cammera is hung directly above the play field which usually results in it being a considerable distance from the play surface and as such make dice rolls difficult to make out especially when 1080p is not available. however the field is well lit meaning all tokens are clearly visible. The last comment regarding the video quality is that everything seems to in soft focus making small details even harder to make out.

The commentary on the other hand is well done and the hosts do a good job of keeping the conversation going as much as possible and also informing on the more important game events.

X-Wing Miniatures Sample Tournaments Lists Interceptors vs Concept

Allen Lancing has a lets play channel and today started uploading short battle report videos. using the brief summary format where the players give a brief description of the last turns play.

A more complete battle report could include at least the combat phase after giving a summary of the activation phase but this video does a good job of reviewing their tournament practice.

BATTLE REPORT #8 - " Brath is Coming" vs " 2 Heroes"

Italian language channel X-Wing Academy Publishes another batrep. They are slowly developing their content and now have a game mat instead of just a black surface.
An interesting combination of lists in this match but more that half the game is a traffic jam in the center of the board.

X-wing 1-10-15 Nick vs Darrell

Nick Taylors Channel includes a handful of similar videos which i will be including in later posts. All of his videos are shot with what appears to be a fish eye lens, which leads to a slight distortion of the play area and a greater view of the surrounding area. I would personally prefer a camera setup that favoured the play field more and gave less view of the players legs as they mill about the table.
the play is quite slow and the audio is nonexistent so I would recommend using the play speed option on the youtube website to watch it at double speed (click the gear icon in the corner of the player).
The table is well lit and the use of the standard cardboard tokens makes it easy to identify whats going on at all times even without 1080p.

X Wing batrep 11 - Gold Squad vs Royal Guards

Fly casual publish a well presented batrep of a casual game store game.

The commentary is good and but as always frequent pauses leave the viewer a little distracted at times.

The video quality is a little poor and an details are unclear although the commentators do a good job of describing the dice rolls and other action so that you are kept abreast of game events. There is also a flourescent light that is strobing and causing a reflection on the play field. That said however the game in question is pretty interesting.

Score: 7.5/10

Hampaat irvessä 3: Snufa vs. Krank 100p

Saw this one a few days ago but wanted to make sure I included it as its a pretty good video. It's a Finnish channel but the video is well presented and the action/dice rolls are clear enough to follow along. Video quality is a little lacking, and the play field is a bit too dark but otherwise a good effort.

Score: 6.5/10
